Idiopathic CNS inflammatory demyelinating disorders include multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis
optica (NMO), transverse myelitis, and optic neuritis. These disorders sometimes occur with established
systemic autoimmune diseases such as Sjogren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus
and other organ?specific autoimmune diseases. We summarize the current evidence of systemic autoimmunity
in MS and NMO, and discuss the practical implications for clinical management.
